About me

Hi there! My name is Alice Kuhns, and I am an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist licensed to practice in California, supervised by Isabelle Futsi, LMFT. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I am deeply grateful for the opportunity to serve our vibrant community. It is nice to virtually meet you!

Pronouns: She/Her/Hers

I would describe myself as an eclectic therapist, blending various theoretical orientations to meet the unique needs of each client. My foundation is relational and attachment-based, rooted in the belief that the quality of our therapeutic relationship is central to healing. Incorporating Relational Therapy, I focus on developing authentic relationships, understanding cultural impacts, and using empathy to overcome isolation and build resilience. I view therapy as a collaborative journey, where your self-knowledge and wisdom are paramount. Together, we will work towards fostering self-compassion, gaining self-insight, and developing practical skills that empower you to thrive independently.

My clinical experience is primarily focused on working with teens and young adults navigating themes of identity, self-esteem, and trauma. I have a particular passion for supporting LGBTQ+ and neurodivergent individuals, and I approach my work with a strong commitment to anti-racist and anti-oppressive values. Utilizing a trauma-informed lens, I ensure that our work together acknowledges and addresses the impact of past trauma on your present experience. As a highly sensitive person myself, I am attuned to the unique challenges and strengths of highly sensitive individuals.

Previous clients have shared that they appreciate my warmth, acceptance, and genuine engagement. In our work together, I strive to create a brave and inclusive space where all parts of you are welcome.

If you want a little glimpse into my personality, I am an amalgamation of love for my cats, video games, and musicals. I look forward to hearing from you.

Education

I earned my M.A. in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis on Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University.

Prior to that, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Psychology from Loyola Marymount University, Bellarmine College of Liberal Arts.

Therapy Speciality

I specialize in working with teens and young adults navigating identity, self-esteem, and trauma. My expertise also extends to supporting couples, highly sensitive individuals, and those identifying as LGBTQ+ or neurodivergent.

Additionally, I work with individuals who have experienced anxiety, depression, neglect, and other forms of trauma; helping them heal and build resilience.

I have a particular affinity for supporting highly sensitive individuals and teens, providing a brave space for them to explore and heal.

Recognizing the uniqueness of every individual’s story, I tailor my approach to meet your specific needs and goals. My practice integrates emotional regulation, distress tolerance, parts work, relational and attachment-based therapy, psychodynamic, narrative, and trauma-informed approaches. By exploring your nervous system, body awareness, and the intricate parts that comprise your inner landscape, we create a personalized path to support your healing journey.

I incorporate relational therapy, focusing on developing authentic relationships and understanding cultural impacts. This approach uses empathy to overcome isolation and build resilience, transforming disconnections into meaningful and empowering bonds. By nurturing self-worth and addressing life’s challenges and transitions, we work towards fostering a deeper connection with yourself and others.
